The Oklahoman – Brandy McDonnell

Well-known bluesman and one-time Oklahoman Watermelon Slim releases today his new album “Church of The Blues,” via NorthernBlues Music.

Co-produced by Slim and Chris Hardwick, “Church of The Blues” includes seven new Watermelon Slim originals plus seven classic tributes to past masters such as Muddy Waters and Fred McDowell, according to a news release.

John Allouise (electric bass guitar) and Brian Wells (drums) joined the bluesman in the studio, and special guests on the album include some of Slim’s favorite blues artists: Bob Margolin (guitarist for Muddy Waters, 1973-80), John Nemeth, Nick Schnebelen, Albert Castiglia, Joe Louis Walker, and Sherman Holmes (Holmes Brothers).

As on past records, Watermelon Slim sings and plays electric-slide resonator guitar in his own unique style, instantly recognized by his fans and blues aficionados.
