Church Of The Blues may well be his best work to date, due, in no small part, to the incredible special guests who participated in the making of the album. Joining the basic unit consisting of Slim on vocals, harmonica & slide guitar, John Allouise on bass and Brian Wells on drums are Bob Margolin: guitar (1, 3, 5), Sherman Holmes: vocal (5), John Nemeth: vocals (5, 13), Red Young: keys (2,4, 6,7, 9, 13), Nick Schnebelen: slide guitar (4), Joe Louis Walker: guitar (6), Albert Castiglia: guitar (7, 12) and more. About equally divided between original tunes and well-chosen covers, the disc serves as a beautiful tribute to the blues, both past and present.
